Fifth Masamu Advanced Study Institute and Workshops in Mathematical Sciences
US-Africa Collaborative Research Network in Mathematical Sciences
We recently received NSF funding for an international collaboration in mathematical sciences. The grant is announced here. We had an institute at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS) in Cape Town, South Africa, November 23 – December 1, 2013.
Singapore Journal of Mathematics
Here we go again. I found myself listed on the editorial board of yet another journal, the Singapore Journal of Mathematics. This was done without my consent. I do believe these are the same folk that gave us the South Asian Journal of Mathematics. A screen capture is below:
South Asian Journal of Mathematics – 2
It appears that the complaints finally worked. I am no longer listed on the editorial board of the South Asian Journal of Mathematics. Neither is Professor Razborov.
Now the story about how I found out I was on the ‘editorial board’. A serious mathematician emailed the entire ‘editorial board’ that his recent work has been blatantly plagiarized in an article published in the South Asian Journal of Mathematics. The offending paper has been subsequently removed from the issue and the pages of the papers following it shifted up to fill the gap. You can still view the removed article using Google’s quick view here.
South Asian Journal of Mathematics
I found out that I am listed on the editorial board of the South Asian Journal of Mathematics. I thought this was strange since I have never had any communication with this journal or whoever is running it. I was never asked to serve on the editorial board and, needless to say, I never gave consent. It turns out that I am not the only one. See:

US-Africa Research Workshop on Mathematical Modeling of Biological Systems and Biodiversity
This is a three-day research workshop on Mathematical Modeling of Biological Systems and Biodiversity to be held on November 30th – December 2nd, 2012 in Lilongwe, Malawi. The workshop will follow the Southern Africa Mathematical Sciences Association (SAMSA) 2012 conference and it will be a follow-up of the Masamu 2011 (Livingstone, Zambia).
Support for the activities is provided by the US National Science Foundation under award DMS-1050259.

H. Bindele defended his dissertation on June 18th, 2012. His dissertation is entitled Rank-Based Regression for Nonlinear and Missing Response Models.
Visited Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia) June 19 – July 22.
I visited Addis Ababa University from June 19 – July 22 where I gave a graduate Statistics course.
