Saving with Sustain-a-Bowl

It’s that time again folks… Auburn University’s third annual Sustain-A-Bowl is here!

The Sustain-A-Bowl campuswide resource competition began in February 2008 pitting the Quad and Hill residence halls against each other to see which group of students could save the most natural resources. The first go at “going green” was the start of something great.
Last year’s competition, which included its newest participants – the Village – saved the University $12,374 in utilities, beating the 2009 results by almost $4,000.
The competition is composed of several parts: reducing electricity and water usage, reducing trash output and increasing recycling over the course of  four weeks, and getting involved in sustainability education and community-building events. In addition to the general resource-saving effort, students take part in Sustain-A-Bowl bulletin board decorating, a “What it means to be Green” photo competition, sheet banner painting and T-shirt painting competitions.
Sustain-A-Bowl is a joint project of the Office of Sustainability and Housing and Residence Life with the help of sponsors Tiger Dining, Waste Management, Coca-Cola, Auburn Bookstore, Pottery Café, Gnu’s Room Bookstore and Coffee House and Re-Invent.
So, Ready…Set… GO GREEN, Big Blue!
