The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of “Best” Practices: Some Lessons from the Memory Laboratory
Presenter – Mark A. McDaniel, Washington University in St. Louis
This seminar is jointly sponsored by the Department of Psychology and the Biggio Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning.
Basic memory research shows that retrieval enhances subsequent retention. The implication is that testing should be used to promote learning and retention, not just for summative assessment. Dr. MacDaniel will present a number of experimental demonstrations of test-enhanced learning and share some interesting findings.
Update – October 8th: This presentation has been moved to Cary Hall 158 to ensure ample seating for all interested scholars.
