But then we think…….

It’s the week before finals. For a lucky few, that means a week of relaxation before the biggest tests of the semester start next Monday. But for most of us, the week before finals is an overwhelming mix of papers, final projects, and pre-finals tests.

Looking at your planners, it may seem like a lot right now, but FEAR NOT.

The Auburn Circle has plenty of ways to help you unload some of that stress during finals week. Check out a few of our favorite ways to take a break and unload some of the stress before finals.

Retail Therapy: Whatever it is, shoes, books, new art supplies, video games, music; retail therapy is a proven way to alleviate the pains of a stressful week. This week, the Circle is taking retail therapy one step further and giving out FREE STUFF all week. Come see us on the concourse and pick up some sunglasses, cups, koozies and candy.

Food and Entertainment: On Tuesday, the Circle is hosting “SNAPS: Auburn Circle’s Artist Expo” in the Student Center Ballroom from 7-8 p.m. Take a break from all of the studying and come by for pizza, live readings from our new issue of the magazine and a performance by the Lee County Flannel Club. Oh, and don’t forget the desserts (which is stressed spelled backwards!) Everybody is welcome, and it’s sure to take your mind off of papers, tests and projects.

Light Reading: Procrastinate reading that textbook for a little longer, and pick up one of our magazines this week! We will be handing them out on the concourse from 9-2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday on the concourse, at Mell Street and by the Student Center. This semester’s issue looks awesome, so make sure to grab one while we still have them!

Have a wonderful week everyone!

When asked what hashtag would describe her life, one of our PR team members, Lillian Parker, answered that her hashtag would be #LizLemoooon. While a day in the life at the Circle isn’t exactly the same as a day in the life of the popular TV series, 30 rock (what the what???), Lillian could totally bring some Liz-esque humor to the table. Meet Lillian Parker, one of our lovely PR team members.

Q: If you could only wear one color for the rest of your life, what color would it be and why?

A: I would wear gray. I know that sounds blase, but I wear a lot of gray already and I think it’s a color that doesn’t convey a particular sentiment. It’s very ambiguous and versatile, and every day is a new day!

Q: What’s your favorite part about working for the Circle?

A: My favorite part about working for the Circle is helping to give attention to student artists. I love seeing the work that comes through our office and being part of such an amazing staff.

Plans for SNAPS are coming along, and we are so excited! SNAPS is the Auburn Circle’s Artist Expo. On Tuesday, April 23, 2013 come to the Student Center Ballroom to check it out. The event will start at 7 p.m. We will have free pizza, snacks and refreshments. Students who submitted work to the circle will be reading their work out loud, and there will be photography and artwork from the magazine on display. It’s going to be relaxing and entertaining.

The Lee County Flannel Club, Auburn’s improvisation group, will be performing throughout the night, so you will laugh and have flashbacks to watching Whose Line Is It Anyway?

SNAPS is also our distribution launch party. We will have issues of the magazine ready for you to take home. We can’t wait for you to see the finished product! The rest of the week we will be distributing the magazine on the concourse.

We all know the week before finals can get a little hectic, so clear your schedules now and plan to take a little break Tuesday night for some free food and entertainment.

The end of the semester is approaching quickly, and we have big plans to finish strong!

Earlier in the semester, Matt Diaz, one of the Circle’s fiction editors, casually mentioned in an interview that he would like to see more Sailor Moon fan fiction from our submitters.

Spoiler Alert: The Spring 2013 issue doesn’t include any Sailor Moon fan fiction, but it did make it onto Matt’s favorite five.

Meet Matt, one of our three fantastic fiction editors.

Name: Matt Diaz

Major: Professional Writing and Literacy Studies Major

Minors: Spanish and Asian Studies

Matt’s Five Favorites:

1. Cheeseburgers

2. Jorge Luis Borges

3. Sailor Moon

4. Scissor Sisters

5. Dogs

Q: If you could go on a road trip with three fictional characters, who would you choose?

A: I would go on a road trip with Speed Racer, Jeff Lebowski, and Hercule Poirot. I trust my reasons are self-evident.

Q: If you had a theme song, what would it be?

A: Raffi’s “Banana Phone”

Q: What kitchen utensil would you be and why?

A:If I were a kitchen utensil, I would be a stainless steel steak knife, because I am 11% chromium by mass and have serrated edges.

Q: If you could meet any famous person, dead or alive, who would you want to meet?

A: If I could meet any famous person, I’d want it to be Nero. He seems like a guy who could throw a party.

Q: What’s your favorite part about working for the Circle?

A: The view from my 40th story office window

Q: What’s your favorite piece from past Circles?

A: It would definitely be Paul Vance’s Makes Your Heart Move from our last issue

The Auburn Circle won the award for Outstanding Media Organization. We were recognized for our increased publicity, our first live poetry reading event, our design and our quality. At the event, we enjoyed a delicious meal and got to spend time with other honorable Auburn organizations. Other groups such as The Big Event, Alternative Student Breaks, War Eagle Girls & Plainsmen and IMPACT were also in attendance.

Congratulations to all organizations & individuals nominated for awards.
