Mission
The Alabama Campus Coalition for Basic Needs seeks to unify college campuses throughout Alabama to ensure student basic needs are met, thereby empowering all students to succeed in school, earn their degrees, and open doors to opportunity.
Goals
- Increase awareness of college student hunger on campuses and statewide.
- Cultivate a strong statewide network of universities and key stakeholders seeking to eliminate hunger on campus.
- Strive to make campus food security a priority on college campuses, surrounding communities, and statewide.
- Support campus strategies to ensure access to healthy, affordable, and culturally appropriate foods on college campuses and in surrounding communities.
A generous grant from the ECMC Foundation was awarded in December 2019 to facilitate the assessment of food insecurity on Alabama college campuses and create practical solutions to addressing issues with hunger for higher-education students. Throughout 2021, campus coalitions at each of the 10 partnering universities will develop and evaluate research-based solutions to the issue of hunger on campus.
