The Auburn Tigers are opening the 2011-2012 season at home against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on September 25th. Puck drop is set for 1 pm Eastern Time. This will be the first of many exciting match ups in the newly completed Columbus Ice Rink, which is the new home of the Tigers. Tickets will be sold at the door and are $5 for adults, $4 for students with IDs, and kids under 8 are free.
Auburn is not in unfamiliar territory facing Georgia Tech, as they played two games against them in their inaugural season last year, once at home and once in Atlanta. Both of which were thrilling games filled with high emotion and a few unfortunate injuries. This season’s match ups against the Yellow Jackets promise to deliver that same level of intensity.
“We are developing a rivalry with GA Tech. We will be playing them twice again this year and we plan to come out strong on Sunday to set the tone for the entire season,” says Coach Mike Robinson.
Georgia Tech will also be enjoying a new rink this season for their home games in Cumming, GA. The Tigers will travel there on January 8, for their second game against the Yellow Jackets.
