Facilities

The Facilities Projects Team advocate on behalf of topics regarding the student experience in areas such as: campus planning, construction, crosswalk technology, etc. Through Auburn Answers, and other forms, they work to gather feedback on the student experience relating to facilities management and present relevant findings to administrators.

For progress on current major construction projects, please visit the Facilities Management website.

Below you will find further information on some projects and initiatives SGA has been a part of over the years in implementing on behalf of the student body.

Auburn Memorial

The Auburn Memorial honors all Auburn University students, faculty, staff, and alumni who have passed away. The Memorial serves as a space for tranquil reflection and reverence on Auburn University’s campus.

The creation of a memorial space was an initiative of the Student Government Association throughout several years of leadership groups. The 4.25 acre space provides a gathering place for large and small groups on campus. The Auburn Memorial is located away from campus foot traffic-in the Garden of Memory across from the President’s Home-creating a quiet and undisturbed environment for reflection.

For more information on the Auburn Memorial, please visit this article written about the initiative.

Auburn Recreation & Wellness Center

As a result of SGA’s advocacy efforts to oversee a referendum, on August 19, 2013, Auburn University Campus Recreation opened its doors for the first time.

The Recreation and Wellness Center features a 240,000 square-foot facility and includes a 1/3-mile indoor track, two 50-foot rock-climbing towers, a variety of cardio and strength equipment, and multi-purpose indoor courts.

For more information about Recreation and Wellness Center, please visit the website.

Weagle Water Stations

In an effort to help with sustainability, the Weagle Water Station project was initiated. This provides water stations around campus to refill your re-usable water bottle.

Student Activities Center

In fall 2019, The newly-renovated Student Activities Center re-opened and will serve as a mid-size event space for events too large for the Student Center Ballroom, but too small for the Auburn Arena or Coliseum, expanding programming options for Auburn students. Events such as the International Peace Dinner hosted by International Student Organization and David Dobrik presented by University Program Council are two examples of how this space has been used since its renovation.

The auditorium has an expanded stage with new lighting and seating for up to 1,200 people. The lobby features a pre-event space for concessions, merchandise, and community gathering before or after events.

For the project overview of the Student Activities Center, please visit the project page on the Facilities Management Website.

To learn more about how to reserve the space and its capabilities for events, visit Student Involvement website.

Outdoor Study Spaces

These outdoor study spaces are outfitted with solar charging tables. The solar charging tables provide a sustainable means for students to charge their electronic devices while also creating additional outdoor study space.

The tables resemble those currently used in various dining locations across campus, but instead of a typical umbrella, they include a shade structure which doubles as a solar panel. There are four solar panels located on each table canopy (three 55 watts panels and one 100 watt panel). The panels have adjustable angular settings for optimal solar exposure.

Each table provides seating for eight and includes four electrical outlets, four USB outlets and four Qi enabled (wireless) charging areas on the tabletop surface.

One table is located outside of Foy Hall adjacent to Chicken Salad Chick, while the other two are located next to Lupton Residence Hall in the Plains to Plate seating area and near AU Smokehouse seating.

There are signs on each table to help educate users on the features of each table and how to activate power lights and wireless phone charges.
