Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity & Scholarship Breakfast with Guest Speaker Nikki Giovanni

Featuring Nikki Giovanni\, American Poet\, Writer\, Commentator\, Activist and EducatorThe East Central Alabama chapter of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) will host its Annual Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast to commemorate the civil rights pioneer’s legacy. This year’s keynote speaker is Nikki Giovanni\, an American poet\, writer\, commentator\, activist\, and educator. One of the world\'s most well-known African-American poets\, her work includes poetry anthologies\, poetry recordings\, and nonfiction essays\, and covers topics ranging from race and social issues to children\'s literature. She has won numerous awards\, including the Langston Hughes Medal\, the NAACP Image Award\, and has been nominated for a Grammy Award\, for her Nikki Giovanni Poetry Collection. Additionally\, she has recently been named as one of Oprah Winfrey’s twenty-five <i>Living Legends</i>.
The scholarship breakfast will take place Monday\, January 16\, 2017 at 7:30 am at the Auburn University Hotel & Conference Center. Now in its 23rd year\, the breakfast consists of scholarship presentations\, awards and other recognitions. Such an expression of unity is appropriate\, as NFBPA aims to be an example of community involvement\, cross-cultural unity\, and service towards others.

Scholarships will be awarded to area high school students and the Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. Community Service Award will be presented.
