Post contributed by Dr. Nanette Chadwick, Director of Academic Sustainability Programs

As part of the university-wide “This is Research Faculty Symposium” on September 16, there will be a series of  lightning sessions. These lightning sessions are designed to help faculty learn about others who share their interests and with whom they may want to form collaborative relationships.  The lightning sessions are informal. Presentations are very brief (5 minutes or less) and are designed as “introductions” of faculty on campus to each other’s research. I will moderate a lightning session that will focus on Sustainability Research, at 10:00-11:30am on September 16. Here is a description of the session’s focus:

Sustainability Research addressing the interconnections among economy, society, and environment, and/or equitable distribution of resources and opportunities. Sustainability can be addressed in areas of development, community/society, business, agriculture, etc. A related topic is “environmental justice research” that promotes the health of natural and built environments and encourages the equitable distribution of environmental benefits and burdens throughout all communities.

If this is connected to your area of expertise, I encourage you to sign up for this lightning session.  Please also feel free to reach out to other faculty you know who might be interested in attending and possibly sharing their interests/expertise. Even if you don’t want to present, all faculty are welcome to attend this session and learn more about related research expertise on campus.
