Underarm is part of a larger body of work created for Corpus Daisy, the Spring 2016 B.F.A. Candidates Senior Project Exhibition. The series focused on the disillusionment of beauty standards and Western society’s expectations for women’s body image, especially as defined by their hair. The artist gouged and carved into the painting to create a textured surface resulting in a physical manifestation of the way women treat their skin in the pursuit of beauty.
