Thomas W. (Tom) Johnson

Tom Johnson had over 37 years experience when he retired in October 2015 from Southern Company’s Research & Environmental Affairs Department. During his career he was Project Manager on several alternative fuel development efforts. He directed projects on coal liquefaction, coal gasification and advanced coal cleaning. He was also responsible for managing Southern Company’s Renewable Power R&D Program that included biomass, solar, and wind technologies. Tom holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from Auburn University. He served on numerous EPRI Technology Advisory Committees where he directed Southern Company’s interests in development of advanced power generation technologies. Tom enjoys fly fishing for trout and traveling with his wife, Ann. Tom and Ann are strong supporters of humanitarian and environmental causes, especially social justice, climate change mitigation and life style sustainability.
