Discover gardening from the ground up!
The Kreher Preserve & Nature Center “Can You Dig It” Gardening Camp, for upcoming 3rd through 7th graders, offers a fantastic interactive and educational look at gardening. Taught by our very own gardening expert Cyndi Czerkawski, this camp is a great way to teach your children where their food comes from.
Campers will design and implement a themed garden, including getting their hands dirty by learning the tricks to planting successful and healthy plants. Campers will harvest fresh vegetables directly from the garden, exploring how to determine ripeness and the best time to pick. And campers will create delicious snacks and learn how to use their harvest in many simple and quick recipes.
Finally, campers will get to join a field trip to community gardens in the area to witness, firsthand, the diversity of crops that can be grown in Alabama, the direct social benefit of gardening, and the impact vegetable gardening can have on all of our lives.
Can You Dig It Gardening Camp runs from July 28 through July 30, 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM (drop off begins at 7:45 AM). The camp is $125 per camper for all three days and includes a daily snack, all camp activities, and a gardening starter kit. Membership with the Kreher Preserve & Nature Center is required. A discount of 10% per camper is available for siblings living in the same household.
This program will be held at the Kreher Preserve & Nature Center, located at 2222 N. College Street near the AU Fisheries and Hwy 280. For more information, visit auburn.edu/preserve, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 334-844-8091.
